ISDA publishes a broad range of documents. The publications available generally fall into two categories:

  • publications designed to assist parties document Transactions under an ISDA Master Agreement (e.g. ISDA definition booklets and Annexes); and
  • publications designed to assist parties gain a better understanding of how the ISDA Master Agreement and other ISDA documentation operate (e.g. User guides).

Copies of these document can be obtained from ISDA. A complete list of ISDA's publications is available on www.isda.org (click on the "Bookstore/Publications" link on the left hand side of the page and the sub-link "Print Publications Order Form").

AFMA recommends that participants use the relevant ISDA definitions booklets for all types of transactions that can be documented under them except that, in the case of electricity, AFMA does not recommend using the Commodity Reference Price definition set out in the 2005 ISDA Commodity Definitions. However, this must be done with care. In addition to addressing legal (contractual) issues, the ISDA Definitions booklets incorporate many commercial terms by reference.  It is important therefore that participants clearly understand the full implications of using ISDA definitions.

This Guide refers to the 2006 ISDA Definitions rather than the 2000 ISDA Definitions. Further information on the 2006 ISDA Definitions can be found at 2.1.5 "Commentary on the ISDA Definitions".

Also it is important that, once ISDA definitions are adopted, Confirmations are produced that are consistent with them. Examples of these can be found at the rear of each of the ISDA definitions booklets and in respect to a number of confirmations at 3 "Products".
